Day 20 - The Song of the Realm
One line that always brings me home.
There have been so many songs this year—songs where one line hit deepest, hardest, or exactly where the moment’s impact would be greatest. I’ve cranked the volume in the car more times this year than any other. Sometimes I needed the sound alone and others I needed to feel the layers.
A few tracks have origin stories—little mythic moments of their own.
Bob Seger & The Silver Bullet Band - The Fire Inside, is one.
This one found me while out walking Doggo.
We were waiting at a roundabout. A classic black care rolled past—windows down, sun warm on the day, volume unapologetically loud.
I only heard three words:
“The Fire Inside”
They hit with perfect timing —matching exactly what I’d been thinking, what Jason & I had been discussing, what the day was already stirring.
When I arrived back home, I listened through the options Jason narrowed it to. There it was, the first of two options. It’s been a frequent companion since.
Oh The Larceny - Another Level
This one didn’t arrive loudly.
It arrived with the right frequency. It’s been a steady part of my soundtrack for a couple of years now. It’s the kind of song that doesn’t hype you up-it reminds you who you’re becoming.
Songs are more than background noise for me.
They are markers and signals.
Reminders of the pulse beneath the day.
Each one holds a piece of the Realm. A line, a beat, a spark that brings me back to myself every single time.
