Day 17-Tools & Talismans II

Prompt - “A thing I made my own”

I was about to conclude I’d drawn a blank for this prompt.
Then one item stepped forward—quiet but insistent—and said, “Me. I’m the one you made your own.”

It’s a women’s pocket-watch cover.
It’s origin story before it reached me is unknown, but the moment by fingers brushed it, something clicked. I’m not sure exactly when the “make it mine” moment happened—within a couple of days, I think —the bond was immediate.

It opens on both sides.
One side is meant for the watch face; the other a slim compartment for a photo.
The outer shell is etched with birds-delicate, intentional, a touch of wanderer’s magic.

I bought a chain for it so I could wear it.
I chose one I knew could carry its weight—links braided rather than bulky.
It feels perfectly repurposed.

In the watch-side compartment I keep a few tiny stones that fit snugly, making a soft, almost secretive rattle when I walk. On somedays, I swap them for one of the small stone discs from an old chakra set I bought years ago. I always knew those discs were meant for something else; now I know what.

A tiny blob of Blu-Tak keeps the disc centred so the edges don’t chip while I’m moving. It’s a simple trick, but it turns the piece into something living- something that moves with me.

It isn’t just a pocket-watch cover anymore.
It’s a charm I carry.
A tiny field of sound, stone and story—reshaped by me, into a Talisman that belongs to me now, and me entirely.
